IT'S SO SIMPLE

Ask me anything   Submit   Philosophy Major at The University of Texas at Austin. I'm all over the place most of the time. A little messy. I'm into trying to stay fit and eating right, although that doesn't always happen. My friends and the people around me complete me. In my opinion, human relationships are the most important thing in the world and the key to true happiness. I tend to think too much and not say enough so good luck trying to get to know all of me.

"You have a masterpiece inside you, too, you know. One unlike any that has ever been created, or ever will be. And remember: If you go to your grave without painting your masterpiece, it will not get painted. No one else can paint it. Only you."

"When someone works for less pay than she can live on - when, for example, she goes hungry so that you can eat more cheaply and conveniently - then she has made a great sacrifice for you, she has made you a gift of some part of her abilities, her health, and her life. The “working poor,” as there are approvingly termed, are in fact the major philanthropists of our society. They neglect their own children so that the children of others will be cared for; they live in substandard housing so that other homes will be shiny and perfect; they endure privation so that inflation will be low and stock prices high. To be a member of the working poor is to be an anonymous donor, a nameless benefactor, to everyone else."

Barbara Ehrenreich, “Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By In America”

I recently read this book, and while several observations and statistics stuck out to me, this quote, on the last page, I believe really sums things up quite well.

Forget the billionaire “job creators” — our working poor are really the ones supporting our economy.

"To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget….Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing."
